Successful Annual Conference on the German Society for Biomaterials in Erlangen
The Annual Conference of the German Society for Biomaterials (DGBM) was held in Erlangen on 26-28 September 2013 with Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini as Conference Chairman and a team of colleagues from Erlangen, Würzburg and Bayreuth as members of the local organising committee. DGBM former president Prof. M. Epple (Univ. of Duisburg-Essen) and current DGBM president Prof. S. Rammelt (University Hospital, TU Dresden) were present. DGBM celebrated its 20th Anniversary at the Conference. The conference attracted more than 250 participants from Germany and abroad, coming from universities, research centres and industry. The main topic of the meeting was “Strategies for vascularization of implants and new biomaterials” but a wide range of topics in the broad biomaterials field were covered, including: bioactive and biodegradable materials (polymers, ceramics and metals), multifunctional scaffolds for tissue engineering, biofabrication and cell processing, in-vitro and in-vivo studies, coatings, surfaces and biofunctionalisation techniques, drug delivery systems, antibacterial materials and nanomaterials in medicine. A compact and complete scientific program was prepared, which involved 7 oral sessions and 2 large poster sessions in addition to the Young Scientists Forum organised by Dr. S. Ghanaati (University of Mainz, Germany). Invited speakers were: Prof. D. W. Hutmacher (Queensland Univ. of Technology, Australia), Prof. P. Fratzl (Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Research Campus Golm, Potsdam, Germany), Prof. U. Gross (Free Univ. of Berlin, Germany) and Prof. J. Kirkpatrick (University of Mainz, Germany). The program of the conference is available here. (Click images to enlarge)
