Visit of Prof. S. Nazhat, McGill University
Professor Showan N. Nazhat, Associate Professor in the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering, McGill University, Montreal, Canada, visited our Institute and presented the seminar: “Anisotropic injectable tissue equivalents”. He gave an overview on the latest research results in his group in the field of collagen based structures for regenerative medicine. We have collaborated with Professor Nazhat’s research group for more than 10 years. Our first joint paper, in collaboration with Dr. J. Blaker (currently at University of Manchester, UK), was published in Biomaterials in 2004: Blaker, J. J., Nazhat, S. N., Boccaccini, A. R., Development and Characterisation of Silver-Doped Bioactive Glass-Coated Sutures for Tissue Engineering and Wound Healing Applications, Biomaterials 25 (2004) 1319-1329. Our last publication, a review paper on collagen-bioactive glass composites for bone tissue engineering, has just been published in Adv. Healthcare Materials: Sarker, B., Hum, J., Nazhat, S. N., Boccaccini, A. R., Combining Collagen and Bioactive Glasses for Bone Tissue Engineering: A Review, Adv. Healthcare Mater. 4 (2015) 176–194.
