Professor Aldo R. Boccaccini visited the Department of Biomaterials, Radboud University Medical Center, Nijmegen, The Netherlands. Hosts were Dr. Sander Leeuwenburgh and Prof. John Jansen. The main aim of the visit was participating at the oral defense of the PhD thesis of Mr Mani Diba (pictured with Prof. Boccaccini), Mani is a graduate from the Master program MAP at FAU and collaborator of our Institute. He successfully defended his PhD thesis carried out at Radboud University Medical Center under supervision of Dr. Sander Leeuwenburgh and Prof. John Jansen in the field of composite biomaterials with self-healing properties. Our collaboration with Dr. Diba and the group of Dr Sander Leeuwenburgh (pictured) has led to high impact joint publications [1, 2]. During his visit, Prof. Boccaccini also gave a seminar at the Department of Biomaterials, Radboud UMC, entitled: “Bioactive glasses with biologically active ion delivery: development and applications”.
