“End of the Year 2021 Meeting” at the Institute of Biomaterials
The end-of-the-year 2021 meeting at the Institute of Biomaterials took place online on 16th December 2021 with participation of more than 70 Institute members. Professor Boccaccini gave a presentation summarizing the accomplishments of our Institute in 2021, including 5 successfully defended doctoral (Dr.-Ing.) theses. Ten new PhD students joined our Institute in 2021. Moreover, more than 60 Master, Bachelor and other project students carried out their projects in our Institute. Despite the continuous restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 30 international visitors, including academic visitors and exchange (Erasmus) students from 18 countries selected our Institute for carrying out their projects. We gave numerous online presentations at conferences, many of them were invited or keynote presentations and we co-organised many scientific events, including symposia, summer schools and webinars. In addition, several Institute’s members received important awards this year, including Dr. Katharina Schuladen receiving the best PhD thesis award of the FAU Faculty of Engineering. Our publication activity was excellent, members of the Institute published more than 90 papers in scientific journals during 2021. Prof. Boccaccini congratulated all Institute’s members for the excellent achievements despite the limitations imposed by the pandemic and thanked everyone at the Institute, including students, for keeping consistently a high standard of safety following the corona hygiene measures.
