Doctoral thesis success: Bernhard Friedrich
We congratulate Bernhard Friedrich for successfully defending his doctoral thesis titled “Peptide-functionalized SPIONs for the removal of pathogens” on 29th July 2022. He carried out his doctoral project at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Section of Experimental Oncology and Nanomedicine (SEON), University Hospital Erlangen, under supervision of Prof. Christoph Alexiou, Dr. Rainer Tietze and in collaboration with our Institute under supevision of Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini. The examination board was composed by Prof. Andriy Mokhir (Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy, FAU), Prof. Stefan Lyer (SEON, FAU), Prof. Matthias Goeken (Institute for Materials Science, FAU) and Prof. Boccaccini. Prof. Boccaccini highlighted the excellent results obtained by Bernhard Friedrich in his highly interdisciplinary research project demonstrating a new technology for removal of pathogens based on functionalized SPIONs [1]. Other publications resulting from the doctoral thesis are in preparation. Many congratulations to Bernhard for the successful defense of his doctoral thesis, we wish him all the best in his future career.
