Retreat of Collaborative Research Centre SFF/TRR 225 in Lichtenfels
The first retreat of 2023 of the Collaborative Research Centre TRR/SFB 225 “From the fundamentals of biofabrication towards functional tissue models”, was held on 22-24 March 2023 in Lichtenfels. Hsuan-Heng Lu, Jonas Roeder (PhD students), Dr. Rainer Detsch and Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini (pictured) attended the retreat. The CRC is funded by German Research Foundation (DFG), and is currently in the second funding period. The Centre brings together researchers from the three universities (University of Würzburg, University of Bayreuth and University of Erlangen-Nuremberg) to investigate the fundamentals of biofabrication and its systematic exploitation to generate functional human tissue models. Prof. Boccaccini is the speaker for Erlangen, which includes principal investigators from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) and the University Hospital Erlangen (UKER). Prof. Boccaccini is also a member of the TRR225 board. In the final meeting of the retreat, Prof. Juergen Groll (speaker of TRR225) remembered the origins of the collaborative activities between the biomaterials Chairs of the three universities more than 10 years ago, when Prof. Boccaccini (FAU), Prof. Thomas Scheibel (Bayreuth) and Prof. Groll (Würzburg) established the Northern Bavaria Biomaterials Alliance (pictured) to foster a strong collaborative network among the 3 universities in the biomaterials field.
