Successful “8th China-Europe Symposium on Biomaterials in Regenerative Medicine” in Nuremberg
Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini was the Chair of the 8th China-Europe Symposium on Biomaterials in Regenerative Medicine (CESB 2024), held in Nuremberg, Germany, on 15-18 September, 2024. The CESB series of symposia bring together two major Biomaterials Societies, namely the Chinese Society for Biomaterials (CSBM) and the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB), that have been collaborating for many years to bring forward significant advances to the field of Biomaterials with focus on Regenerative Medicine applications. The organizing committee involved Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini (CESB 2024 Organiser), Prof. Nicholas Dunne (ESB President), Prof. Ana Paula Pêgo (ESB Past President), Prof. Zhao Yuliang (CSBM President) and Prof. Changsheng Liu (CSBM Past President). The symposium attracted 303 participants from 29 countries, with a strong participation of Chinese researchers. More than 120 PhD students attended the meeting, which included 36 sessions of oral presentations (197 orals) and 89 poster presentations. There were 4 plenary speakers and 14 keynote speakers. The next conference of the CESB series will be held in Beijing, China, in 2026.
Our Institute was highly involved in CESB 2024, with participation of 25 researchers, the presentation of 15 posters (also in collaboration), 4 oral presentations, and the chairing of several technical sessions. Many former members of the Institute attended CESB 2024, including Dr. Liliana Liverani (Italy), Prof. Kai Zheng (China), Prof. Xanthippi Chatzistavrou (Greece), and Dr. Hui Zhu (China), to name a few, and so CESB 2024 offered the opportunity of a big reunion of current and former members of our Institute. Also many current research collaborators attended the conference, including colleagues from FunGlass Center (Trencin, Slovakia) and BBCE (Riga, Latvia). Two PhD students of our Institute, Zhiyan Xu and Hsuan-Heng Lu received Best Poster awards. Prof. Boccaccini said: “it was an honor to chair CESB 2024 in Nuremberg on behalf of the European Society for Biomaterials. We had a fantastic meeting with a superb line up of Plenary and Keynote speakers from China and Europe, top scientific presentations, both oral and poster contributions, an excellent social program, very effective networking opportunities, especially for the many early career researchers who attended, and a perfect venue in the city of Nuremberg. I am grateful to everyone who contributed to the success of CESB 2024, in different capacities and at different stages of the organisation. Looking forward to CESB 2026 in Beijing!”
