We congratulate Binh (Hana) Phan for successfully defending her doctoral thesis titled “COMBINATION OF BIORESORBABLE POLYESTERS AND ESSENTIAL OILS AS INNOVATIVE ANTIMICROBIAL COATING BIOMATERIALS” on 29th November 2024. Hana carried out her doctoral project in our Institute supervised by Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini in the framework of the Horizon 2020 EU MSCA-ITN-2014-EID – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network “Drug-Free Antibacterial Hybrid Biopolymers for Medical Applications – HyMedPoly”, in collaboration with colleagues at Lucideon Ltd, UK. The examination board was composed by Prof. Boccaccini, Prof. Ipsita Roy (University of Sheffield, UK, and HyMedPoly project scientific coordinator), Prof. Danijela Gregurec (Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy, FAU), and Prof. Dirk Schubert (Institute of Polymer Materials, FAU). Prof. Boccaccini highlighted the interesting results obtained by Hana in her research project, focusing on development of biopolymer based structures suitable for the incorporation and delivery of essential oils, specially cinnamon bark oil, for achieving antibacterial effects without the use of synthetic antibiotics. The publications based on the results are in preparation. Many congratulations to Hana for her great achievement, we wish her all the best in her future career.
