Prof. Boccaccini co-chaired FEMS Online Event: Materials Assisted by Digital Science – Revolution, Benefits & Risks for Industry

On 29th January 2025, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini, president of the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS) co-chaired the FEMS online event exploring the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Materials Science, which brought together leading experts from industry and academia to discuss the latest advancements, challenges, and opportunities in this rapidly evolving field. The event was co-chaired by Dr. Gerhard Hackl, Chair of the FEMS Strategy Advisory Group (SAG). Speakers (pictured) were Assoc. Prof. Eugénio Rocha (University of Aveiro, Portugal), Dr. Irene de Diego Calderón (ArcelorMittal) and Prof. Lorenz Romaner (University of Leoben, Austria). The event also introduced the “AI in Industry Symposium” that will be held at FEMS EUROMAT 2025, promising further discussions on AI’s role in shaping the future of materials science.
