Synthesis and Characterization of ADA-GEL Composite Materials Incorporating Bioactive Glass Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications
Supervisors: Prof. Xanthippi Chatzistavrou (AUT), Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini (FAU)
This study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of composite materials made of alginate-di-aldehyde (ADA-GEL) incorporated with mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs) doped with antibacterial ions. Comparative analysis will be conducted between the composite materials and ADA-GEL with added mesoporous silica to evaluate their characteristics and biological properties. Characterization methods include 3D printing, electrospinning, and injectability assessments. Biological properties such as antibacterial activity, cell viability, proliferation, drug loading capacity, and the synergistic effects of drugs with and without particles will be evaluated. This research aims to develop advanced composite materials with enhanced properties suitable for various biomedical applications, including tissue engineering, drug delivery, and antibacterial therapies.
