Development of antibacterial collagen membrane coated with bioactive nanoparticles for skin regeneration
Supervisors in Erlangen: Dr. Kai Zheng, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini
Collagen-based materials have been clinically used as dressing for skin regeneration [1]. Moreover, mesoporous bioactive glasses (MBGs) represent promising platforms for the delivery of biomolecules and bioactive ions and are interesting for tissue engineering, including skin regeneration [2]. Indeed bacterial infection-impaired skin regeneration is still a challenge. The aim of this project is to synthesize composite MBG nanoparticles loaded with antibacterial ions to be combined with collagen membranes for skin tissue engineering. Further, the project focuses on the optimization of such composite collagen membranes in terms of structure, mechanical properties as well as antibacterial activity and biocompatibility.
