Some plant-derived biomolecules are known to have antibacterial, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. However, such phytotherapeutics usually have poor physical properties, such as susceptibility to degradation and volatility. Electrospinning and solvent casting are cost effective and versatile methods to produce fibrous structures and film formation which are alternative ways to overcome these disadvantages. This master thesis project aims to fabricate and optimize a series of phytotherapeutic agent loaded poly(ε–caprolactone) films and electrospun scaffolds with antibacterial potential. The accomplished materials will be characterized in terms of surface and mechanical properties, antibacterial activity, and in vitro cell activity in order to appraise their suitability for enhancing wound healing.
