Fabrication and characterization of 45S5 bioactive glass scaffolds containing copper doped mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles

The fact that 45S5 bioactive glasses increase osteoconductivity and osteoblast activity, and can induce vascularization is an important plus value for bone tissue engineering approaches. In this project, 45S5 bioactive glass scaffolds will be fabricated via foam replica technique [1]. In addition, copper doped mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles will be synthesized using micro-emulsion sol-gel assisted process [2]. The scaffolds will be coated with synthesized nanoparticles and they will be characterized in terms of microstructure, bioactivity and antibacterial properties.
