Bioactive glass loaded alginate based hydrogels for tissue engineering applications
Supervisors: Dr. Qaisar Nawaz, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini
This project focuses on the fabrication and characterization of bioactive nanostructured materials based on mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles loaded alginate based hydrogels. Ion doped MBGNs and Ag-containing bioactive glass nanoparticles will be considered. This system will be compared to previous ADA-GEL composites with mesoporous bioactive glass particles that were developed in our Institute [1], and further research will explore the combined incorporation of both particle types into the hydrogel to obtain improved mechanical properties and tailored degradation behaviour. This project is carried out in collaboration with Prof. Xanthippi Chatzistavrou, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
